While driving through the parking lot of a shopping area near us, I saw a girl standing at the entrance holding a sign that read:
HOMELESS & PREGNANT.
It said more but the print was so small I couldn’t read it as I was driving by. The picture is an example, not the real one I saw.
She didn’t look pregnant, was my thought and I don’t think that I have seen that particular plea before, was my second thought.
Later while I was leaving the parking lot, I saw a man drive by and give her a twenty dollar bill from his truck window, I could see that it was twenty dollars.
I recognized this man, I’ve seen him at the RV park we’re staying at. I know he isn’t regularly employed either.
Why would he give her the money? Doesn’t he need it too?
What has people give away what they have, knowing they don’t have much either? They don’t even know if the sign is for real, how do they know she is pregnant.
When I asked, the comment was;
“you have to think that what goes around comes around, if I give it away, more will come my way”
I’ve heard that phrase said when someone does something bad to another, but not when good things happen.
I’m afraid when approached for money, I was quick to say, I’m unemployed too. This sounded so unreal to me even while I was saying it. It is true, just didn’t feel like the right thing to do or say.
Seeing this man give the girl his money does have me looking at this a whole different way. Maybe not twenty dollars, but what I can afford to do to help others.
Something to think about.
